Audio-visual asset production and preparation

What services do we offer?

Andy Finney worked for many years at the BBC in both radio and television and regularly produces audio and video content for ATSF productions. He is also a proficient photographer and has contributed images and montages to projects as appropriate. These services are usually (but not exclusively) offered as part of a larger package for a client.

Examples

• Photography - This can range from straight documentary photography to support dissemination on CD-ROM or the web ... such as the photomontage above, which represents the fascination of optical fibre technology and was produced for an EC project ... to our speciality of near-infrared imaging (as showcased on the Invisible Light web site).
• Video shooting - While we have often worked with outside crews, sometimes it is more cost-effective to shoot the video ourselves. We did this for the ACTS CD-ROMs and for the INFORM project: travelling to project locations around Europe recording interviews and demonstrations.
• Video Encoding - Preparation of news clips for inclusion on Linguaphone language-teaching CD-ROMs. Includes QuickTime compression and preparation of clips for use under Windows running QT2, and QT3 and later. Similar work for EC/ACTS CD-ROMs.
• Preservation - Rescue and transfer of obselete audio and video formats for the UK National Archives including BBC Domesday Project video and1949 war trial sound recordings.
• Television Production - ATSF produced a satellite TV special for the UK Department of Trade and Industry called Visible Results which showed the work of the Multimedia Demonstrator projects. The programme was broadcast clear using Eutelsat Hot Bird and was produced in Plymouth with the help of 2-4 Productions (who handled studio production) and the University of Plymouth TV Studio.
• Audio Editing - Andy Finney worked for many years as an operator and producer in BBC Radio and is a highly skilled audio editor. We currently use DigiDesign ProTools and other software to edit and assemble speech and/or music to professional standard. Recent work includes production of reference CDs for a CD reissue project for First Media and Rhino Records/Elektra in the USA.
