Project management training course

The FAQ

Why London? Why don't you operate in other parts of the country?

We'd be happy to and we have run some courses in-company both in the UK and internationally. But, there need to be enough people to make it viable - about 8, someone has to provide a venue and our travel and subsistence costs need to be covered. We can offer management analysis/consultancy instead of a course. Just ask about options.

Is the course suitable for me?

It seems to suit a wide range of Interactive Media/iProfessionals from Director level to production assistant with all in between, although it’s aimed at the team leader or Project Manager. This may be because so many roles in the sector are still undefined. Also many people in the industry seem to have to wear several hats at once! Take a look at the list of roles that have attended so far - it might help you make up your mind.

Isn't Interactive Media Project Management the same as general Project Management?

Yes and No. Some of the insights can be applied, but the hybrid, cross-functional mix of skills and people demands more - and it's this that makes the difference.

How come the cost is so reasonable when compared to other courses?

We operate with 'no extra frills' - no glossy brochures, and tight margins. Also although training is really needed in the sector, it hasn't been recognised and supported very well ...but this is changing.

Why do you only offer the one course?

We only offer the one at the moment because we are busy doing other work. Training is not our core business. This course covers the essentials. We were asked to run one because of the success of our book Managing Interactive Media - now in its 4th edition and used across the world (previous editions were titles Managing Multimedia). The book covers more and can be used independently for self development. See www.atsf.co.uk/mim. We do offer management and training consultancy for companies, so we might increase our course offering later.

How does interactive media fit with new media, multimedia and digital production?

Tutor and attendees on the course

It covers them all. The terms are used by different people at different times and places. It is the hybrid mix of the production team that makes all the difference - and needs the extra management insights. IT and Media cover separate areas whereas we meld insights from both for those in a digital production environment.

Why do you cover these 3 aspects – project management principles, legal considerations and teams?

They all have key 'risks' attached to them in the interactive field that need to be recognised and managed to ensure successful projects.

Why should I consider taking the course?

The interactive media sector has a bad training record. It demands a lot of its people but doesn't put time and effort into developing them even though it is accepted that it is one of the fastest moving fields. Its people need to constantly reskill. This course demonstrates that training can and should be valued in the field. We're committed to it to try and improve the sector. Our books have also tried to redress the imbalance by passing wisdom on to the next generation of iProfessionals.

How does this fit in with continual professional development (CPD)?

We give a course certificate that shows the modules you have covered and the number of CPD hours you have completed. If you want more information about CPD, see our CPD section and try out the free resource for capturing your CPD record. Tell others about it too!

Even one day is hard to free up for training, do you offer alternative course durations?

We are happy to deliver a module at a time in the evenings across a couple of weeks for in-company training if one day is not suitable. We can also split the day into two half days for in-company training. However, the amount of admin time and effort to organise this for a disparate group of individuals is high and the costs would have to reflect this. We do not believe that there would be a market because of the costs. But, if you want to challenge this, contact us and let us hear your views.

I would like to do one or two of the modules you cover but I don't need the three of them.

We'd be happy to create a list of people and give a course of one or two modules that would suit them. Let us know which modules you'd like to do and we'll try to build enough people and a course around these.
