Godalming Church across the Lamas Lands
The Lamas Lands lie to the north of Godalming and separate the town from neighbouring Farncombe. Originally the railway did not cross here since the land is wet and marshy. In fact it floods often and was once famously mistaken for a lake by scouts for Canadian soldiers who were coming to town in WW2. By the time the troup arrived, with their kayaks, the land was dry again. It's too wet to build on and gives us an open space inhabited by birds and a lolloping herd of cows.
