Catteshall Lock
This is Catteshall lock, just south of Guildford in Surrey. The lock is on what is called the Godalming Navigation, which runs from Godalming, past Farncombe (at a place called Catteshall), to Guildford ... intertwined with the River Wey. The Navigation is one of the many canals built in England in the 18th Century, mainly by Irish labourers. Because they built navigations these workers were known as navigators ... later shortened to navvies. There are people in this shot but you have to look very closely!
