Alaró and more ...A brief holiday on the island of Mallorca provided some surprises. To most British, Mallorca means beaches and bars but if you venture away from the tourist traps, this Mediterranean island boasts some stunning scenery. Click on a thumbnail for a closer look ... The three images above-left are of Castle Alaró, on the outskirts of the island town of the same name, where the Spanish King has a holiday home. The abandoned car - abandoned in a field with a locked iron gate I should add - was just a curiosity demonstrating how inert objects interact visually with foliage when viewed in infrared light. Another interaction with the environment. This ruined gate on the left is another of those curious things you find tucked away only a short way from a major road ... in this case the A31 riding along the Hogs Back in Surrey. I used to have an office near a wier across the Thames at a place called Teddington Lock. This is where the Thames ceases to be tidal. There is a footbridge across the river here and that is the subject of these other two images here. Teddington Lock is where the Monty Python sketch with the Fish Slapping Dance was filmed.
