| Admiral Grace Hopper |
Page 190 of the book includes a reference to a web page which includes a photo of Grace Hopper's famous 'bug' log book Unfortunately the URL I cited went AWOL shortly after publication but the US Navy, in its page commemorating the legendary Grace, includes the photo (towards the bottom of the page). The caption suggests that, although the term 'bug' was not new in this context, the team coined the word 'debug'. [It is salutory to realise that Grace retired in 1986 - before many of today's programmers hit their first key.] |
