NAT
Network Address Translation, a way of 'hiding' the IP addresses of the computers on a network from the Internet at large. This might be done for security or to avoid unnecessarily using up Internet IP addresses.
needs analysis
The primary stage of a training project where the definition of the criteria for success takes place. The competence level of the target audience and the gap between this and the proficiency needed is analysed.
network analysis
Also referred to as critical path analysis; this is the definition of the core tasks and the dependent tasks needed to complete the project. These are mapped out in a network diagram to show their relationship to each other. See critical path.

non-disclosure agreement
A contract, usually brief, whereby one party agrees not to disclose information given to it by the other party. Usually known as an NDA.
non-exclusive rights
A licensing of rights that still allows licensing to other people.
non-linear
In audio-visual production, the use of a computer to edit digitized sound and/or vision. Synonymous with random-access.
normalizing
In audio, adjusting the volume of a digital audio file so that the loudest parts have a predetermined value, often 100%.
NTSC
National Television System(s) Committee, the analogue television standard used in North America and Japan, with 525 lines in a frame (of which 480 are visible) and approximately 30 frames per second. See also PAL/SECAM.
